First exhibition of contemporary art from Papua New Guinea to be presented at the NGV, comprising performances of the songs and stories that are an integral part of the creation of the Omie bark cloth. Filmed in Sydney.

ROBERT JACKS: THE ARTIST’S JOURNEY (20 MINUTE FILM)

In the 1960s’ Robert Jacks was determined to live and work in New York. This film explores that journey and his eventual journey back to Australia. The film joins Jacks in contemporary Melbourne as he installs his exhibition ‘Never Ending Journey’ at the Anna Schwartz Gallery.

PETER CHURCHER: THE MASTER AT WORK (40 MINUTE FILM)

Peter Churcher paints people, street kids, scientists, the famous, the poor and the wealthy – the people that create the canvas of society. This film records an earlier phase of Churcher’s career as an Australian war artist in the Persian Gulf and Afghanistan.

JOHN WOLSELEY: THE SMOKERS HAVE TAKEN THE GOLD (35 MINUTE FILM)

John Wolseley is a powerful and entertaining communicator. ‘The Smokers have taken the gold’ is Wolseley’s unique take on the planet on which we live, using contemporary art, science, geography and philosophy. Filmed in Wyperfeld National Park, Victoria.
MARIO BELLINI: ARCHITECT & DESIGNER 2003 (SHORT FILM)

This exhibition featured an innovative multimedia pres- entation covering Bellini’s celebrated forty-year practice in the fields of architecture and design. Celebrating the opening of NGV International, this film showcases the work of leading Italian architect and designer, Mario Bellini, the principal architect for the major NGV redevelopment.
ART START: DISCOVER THE NGV AND ITS COLLECTIONS ( 7 FILMS)

Designed for teenagers, the seven films Curating, Conservation, Art Detective, Indigenous Collection, Exhibition Design, and Asian Collection go behind the scenes at the NGV to find out more about art and the Gallery. With the ‘Art Start’ model and Gallery curators as their guide, three young people explore ‘The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia’ and ‘NGV International’ to discover art treasures from around the world, from ancient Egypt artefacts to the pop art portraits of Andy Warhol.
